Believe it or not when I started out making a concept album my first thought wasn't to launch a blog, so there's going to a be a few long wordy posts detailing my progress so far.. bare with.
First thing to cover is the name and reasoning behind this concept album.
As an EMP (electronic music production) student at dBs, part of my final submission for my degree included undertaking a 'substantial creative project'. This to me, meant creating some sort of album, tied together by a concept. The title 'Death of Audio' is satirical and is a bit of a joke relating to my original distain at not being able to freely just create music, and having to confine myself to a concept. (Although now that I am getting stuck into it, it has become a process I have started to enjoy). The idea behind the title was that the concept and meaning of the music seemed to hold more weight and importance than the actual audio itself.
The title also relates slightly to the famous song 'Hip Hop is Dead' by Nas, which referred to the lack of originality and talent in modern Hip Hop music. The death of audio takes this one step further. As sampling has become such a phenomenon it has given rise to a lack of originality in all genres of music. As the death of audio focuses on 'good practices' within sampling, with a focus on originality and creativity (not just looping sections of records) it also highlights
what could happen if we collectively don't strive to be creative and innovative in music.
