This is a retrospective post about the track 'He said she said'.

This track was completed early on when working on the album. The sample was taken from a 70's English folk song and was in part inspired by Wretch 32's track 'His and hers'. The theme for the track focuses on arguments in relationships and the way in which we hold on to things that are said in anger. The track itself was created by collaging individual words to recreate sentences not seen in the original record, as well as using sections of the instrumentation to create the backing track. Much like the Wretch 32 track mentioned above I have used a mix of of pitched up and pitched down vocals to reflect the two sides of the argument. The way in which the vocals are mixed and arranged make it difficult to understand what is being said, although phrases such as 'he said' can be taken from the track, as well as 'i've got (something) and 'is it (something)'. This is intentional as it reflects the way in which what is actually said in an argument is not important, but instead focuses on the tonality and emotion within the vocal samples. In this way the track can be interpreted to reflect the aftermath of an argument, both sides talking about what 'he said' or 'she said'. What was actually said is unintelligible and this reflects the way in which most of what people say in a fight does not matter, it is the emotional response to the argument that we hold on to.
